Building Lifelong Trust Through Conservative, Specialized Care
Dr. Colton Fowlkes is a board-certified pediatric dentist known for his calm, clinical approach and dedication to conservative, prevention-based dentistry. He provides care for children as young as 18 months through the pre-teen and early teen years, helping families establish a trusted dental home built on relationships, education, and evidence-based treatment.
With dual undergraduate degrees in Biology and Psychology, Dr. Fowlkes understands both the science of oral health and the behavioral needs of young patients. His gentle demeanor and steady clinical hand make him a go-to for parents seeking low-intervention, high-quality dentistry — especially for children with dental anxiety or medical complexities.
Education & Pediatric Specialty Training
Dr. Fowlkes earned his dental degree from the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University, where he developed a passion for pediatric-focused care. Following dental school, he completed specialized training in:
- Pediatric oral surgery and trauma management
- Dental rehabilitation for young patients
- Behavioral dentistry and child psychology
- Minimally invasive, conservative treatment planning
He is a former clinical provider at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where he gained advanced experience in managing complex cases and collaborating across specialties.
Conservative Dentistry for a Health-Conscious Generation
Parents today want more than just a quick filling or cleaning — they want a dentist who treats the whole child, considers the long-term effects of every procedure, and never recommends unnecessary treatment.
Dr. Fowlkes practices conservative pediatric dentistry, which means:
- Prioritizing prevention first through sealants and fluoride
- Preserving natural tooth structure whenever possible
- Using biocompatible materials for all restorations
- Avoiding overtreatment in favor of long-term health planning
This philosophy aligns perfectly with Dentistry for Children and Teens’ PPO-only boutique care model, allowing more time for patient education, behavior guidance, and detailed diagnostic review.
Experience with Anxious & Medically Complex Patients
Whether it’s a toddler’s first visit or a multi-step treatment plan for a child with special needs, Dr. Fowlkes knows how to adapt care to the patient’s developmental and emotional stage. He works closely with our in-house surgical and anesthesia team to ensure:
- Sedation options are tailored to the child’s comfort and safety
- Families feel supported throughout the treatment process
- Even complex procedures like Tooth Extractions happen in a familiar environment
He also plays a key role in our Special Needs Dentistry program — providing individualized, compassionate care for neurodiverse patients and those with physical or sensory sensitivities.
A Team-Based Approach to Preventive and Surgical Pediatric Dentistry
Dr. Fowlkes is a core part of our multidisciplinary team — working in close coordination with Dr. Paul Cho, D.M.D., M.D. and Dr. Wesley Powell, DDS, MS, PC to offer comprehensive care from cleanings and sealants to surgery and sedation.
By working side-by-side under one roof, Dr. Fowlkes ensures that each child’s treatment is:
- Strategically timed around their development
- Diagnosed with the support of Advanced Imaging
- Carried out with maximum comfort and minimal disruption
