Dr. Wesley Powell, DDS is a Board-certified children’s dentist in Atlanta who maintains a private dental practice for children, teens and adolescents. As a pediatric dentist in Atlanta GA, Dr. Powell and his team practice a full range of children’s dental services which include cleanings, sealants, restorations, white fillings, in-Office oral and IV sedations, laughing gas, digital radiography, tooth whitening and orthodontics.

 

Over the course of his career, he has served as the Atlanta representative for Crest, Proctor and Gamble for Children’s Dental Awareness Month, sharing his knowledge to inner city children. He also became a local spokesperson for Colgate, imparting his insights on local television channels to promote dental care.

Education

 

Dr. Powell has had a flourishing dental practice in the North Lake area for 15 years, joining other pediatric dentists in Decatur GA for instance. He finished his undergraduate studies at the Southern Methodist University with a degree in Anthropology. He attended Columbia University School of Dentistry and Oral Surgery in New York for his dental training.

 

Right after graduating , he completed a three-year post graduate residency program in Pediatric Dentistry while earning a Master’s Degree in Clinical Dentistry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His thesis was published on the Journal of Oral Immunology and Microbiology.

 

 

Professional Practice

 

Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Powell practiced for two years in suburban Washington, D.C. at a pediatric and orthodontic practice before relocating to Atlanta. While there, he was on staff at Arlington Hospital.

 

He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, The American Society of Dental Anesthesia, and the Better Business Bureau.

 

He is currently a member of Gnathos, a continuing education organization that deals solely with the orthodontic treatment and clinical modification of growth and development among growing children and teens.

 

 

 

Charity

 

Certified as a Diplomate by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Powell is also the Atlanta Dental Coordinator for the charitable organization Team Smile and the Atlanta Falcons. This organization partners with a local professional sports team to provide free dental care and screenings to children in many NFL/NBA cities, including some colleges around the country. Partnering with the Atlanta Falcons, Team Smile gathers local dentists and hygienists as they provide free dental care to under privileged children.

 

He volunteers for and supports the Atlanta Black Arts Festival, and has appeared on local television shows to share his insights on early pediatric dental preventative care.

 

Personal Life

 

Aside from being a pediatric dentist in Atlanta GA, Dr. Powell resides in Chastain Park along with his son Pearson. He enjoysmany outdoor activities such as snow skiing, fishing, exercising,playing golf, traveling, volunteering and coaching for his son’s sports at N.Y.O., sporting events, and attending concerts at Chastain Park. He is active in the community with his foundations and community service organizations such as Camp Sunshine and Lanier Partners of North Georgia. He is also a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church and has participated with helping with pre-school children.
